John Murtaugh joined Defenders of Wildlife in 2019 to help deliver an electoral victory to reintroduce wolves to Colorado by 2023. He brings with him experiences in education and advocacy as well as animal husbandry, including work to rehabilitate and release injured and orphaned wildlife.

Past experience with the return of wolves to California instilled in him a powerful lesson on the values of wolf-livestock coexistence, which he now uses in his work with ranchers to promote the partnerships necessary for broader wildlife recovery.
